About us

Asha Bhawan:  Restoring broken lives

Who are we?

Asha Bhawan Trust of India is a NGO committed to restoring broken lives, especially those on the slippery slope of homelessness and social exclusion. For that purpose we offer a safe, structured environment for making a fresh start in life for all those wanting to rebuild their lives. Our residents often compare it to an extended family. It’s a place where hurting people feel accepted, where they are enabled to help themselves and gradually rebuild self-dignity.

We receive referrals of men and women from a number of different agencies including: homeless hostels nation-wide, local Community Groups, Police, NGOs working in the field of alcohol and substance abuse, and social workers from several organizations, as well as families and private individuals.

Where are we?

We opened our first base in India, in the heart of the industrialized city of Gurugram, in 1999. Since then, we have expanded into 21 cities in 13 different states all over the country. Asha Bhawan residences are in Arunachal, Assam, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. In total our 33 houses host around 500 men, women and families in an alcohol, drug, and tobacco-free environment.

Commitment and Funding

Asha Bhawan is committed to continue offering hope and hospitality to the neediest men and women of India, at no additional cost to government or families. In Asha Bhawan we firmly believe that entrance should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means. Our program is not fee charging. Instead, we aim to be self-supporting and sustainable as possible, shifting the financial burden from the individual, his family and society. The majority of funding for daily operations is generated through our charitable businesses and farms. An additional source of private funding are the donations we receive from individuals, collaborating companies, government, private institutions and other NGOs.

As homelessness and social exclusion and substance abuse continue to escalate in our nation, Asha Bhawan is committed to expanding into every state in India. As you get to know us better we would like to invite you in joining efforts with us in this noble cause of building a better future for the next generations in our country.
